Black History Month Specials

Afrovibes party night

Afrovibes party night

Black History Month is special for me this year. It’s the first time I’ve managed to catch some of the shows in the Afrovibes Festival. A troupe of South African artists who come to Britain bi-annually to share there considerable talents with us.

I saw Rainbow Scars at the MAC and was stunned by the quality of the writing and performance. I took part in the Q&A session afterwards in the Township Cafe – the Arena Bar South African style. I went along to hear what other people had to ask and ended up asking most of the questions myself.

Met the delightful Sandra Hall of Friction Arts and discovered new possibilities for performance spaces.

I was gutted that I wasn’t able to make it to see award winning band The Soil and all female group Mamela but I need not have worried. They were performing as part of the end of Afrovibes party at the Drum on Saturday night. And they were amazing.

Rhetorical

It made sense to take in Rhetorical, a play based on Thabo Mbeki’s speeches while he was president of South Africa. Not a moving as Rainbow Scars but touching in places.

It was a feast of a night as I’d also arrived in time to see a ballet performance of Flat Out (a community dance programme).

By the time I staggered home in the wee hours of the morning I was happy that the clocks going back would give me an extra hour in bed.

I’m planning to see Solomon and Marion at the Rep next week.

Becoming a numerologist

Connaissance School of Numerology course brochure

Connaissance School of Numerology course brochure

It felt like I was pulled to the Tree of Life Festival at the weekend – despite my reluctance to make it a priority. Having applied twice for a free ticket and not been successful I’d put it out of my mind. Very late on Friday night I realised I had, indeed, been granted a free ticket.

Exhausted from the night before I didn’t make it till after midday – but it didn’t matter because the people I’d been drawn there to see were not speaking till the Sunday.

Listening to Nicolas David Ngan talk about using numbers to decode your soul contract using your birth name (i.e. on on your birth certificate) was fascinating.

But it was Sonia Ducie and her use of numerology to analyse dreams that drew me to the training courses offered by the Connaissance School of Numerology.

Their certificate and diploma courses offer just about everything I’ve been looking to learn about numerology using an esoteric approach.

When I explained to Sonia Ducie that the numerology section of this blog gets the greatest hits, and that the information there is taken from Numerology Gems she said ‘I wrote that book.’

Did I need any more reason to sign up?

The certificate starts on the 17th November. I’ll keep you posted on how I get on.

I want to thank everyone who helped to make my birthday very special. Thanks for the cards, for the presents, for the drinks, for the Facebook comments, for the dinner, for the drinks for the lunches, for the emails, for the drinks, for the impromptu book reading, for the food, for the company and dare I mention – for the drinks. It started on Friday and finished on Tuesday. I have wonderful family and friends. Thank you all.

Is it possible to give a bad medium/psychic message?

On Tuesday I went to another spiritual development circle. There were six of us including the leader,(two men and four women). He reiterated that when we show up at circle we are sending out a message to spirit that we are willing to work with them. We had to focus on a person and try to get a message for them as we ‘connected’ with spirit.

I focused on the woman opposite me but she didn’t recognise anything that I told her. Not the name or the images I described.

Our leader said not to get disheartened, that sometimes the message is not obvious to the recipient, that later it may make sense after they’ve done more research.

The man next to me got loads of accurate stuff for one of the women. The others also got messages that others could ‘take’.

The leader told me to have another go as a bad message can demoralise a medium and have them go home feeling terrible.

My question was ‘is it possible to give a bad message?’ If we are channels and the message is simple passing through us, how can it ever be bad? It must serve a purpose either for the recipient or for the medium.

I wondered if maybe after the accuracy of the last meeting whether I was being given an opportunity to see how I would respond to not having someone ‘take’ everything I said.

I had another go focusing on the leader. He took most of what I said (apart from the name) but i wondered if he was being nice so I didn’t go home demoralised. He said no, much of what he said related to his mother.

So, my question again. Is is possible to give a bad message? Truly welcome any comments.

Inspired by Lillian at the Rotary Club

predencia's avatarpredencia

On Tuesday night I attended my first ever Rotary Club meeting as a guest of Pam Neaves (she who designs my book covers).

I was absolutely blown away by a lady to whom a presentation was being made. Lillian Hopkins at 97 is the oldest member of the women’s arm of the Rotary Club, known as Inner Wheel.

Not only is she active in the Wylde Green branch of the Rotary Club, she still travels to South Africa every year to support a number of charities; and to top it all she was wearing a dress I quite fancied myself.

Upfront Comedy

predencia's avatarpredencia

Hard to believe that this time last week I was getting dressed to go to the start of the comedy season at the Drum in Aston. I needed a laugh so badly, and the three comics didn’t disappoint.

The Way of the Shaman

I started back at spiritual development circle at Oak House on Tuesday night. It’s stated aim is to prepare participants for platform/rostrum work. I was amazed to be in the same group of one of my original mentors.

The Way of the Shaman by Michael Harner

The Way of the Shaman by Michael Harner

I had lengthy discussions about the role of mediumship in shamanic work, and have now accepted that the developing accuracy of my shamanic journeying is akin to good mediumistic messages.

Interesting that I should have been presented with a copy of Michael Harner definitive work on shamanism, ‘The Way of the Shaman’ as a gift on the night.

Biography

I may be venturing into new writing territory. I was asked today to consider writing a biography. From fictional stories to real life ones. Interesting. Anyone out there with experience of biography willing to offer me some advice?

I need to do a Shamanic journey to seek some guidance on this – feels a little outside of my comfort zone.

Love is Not a Reward

The long silence has been the result of getting my head down and focusing on completing 3 major pieces of writing.

Love is Not a Reward - Stories and Sourcebook

Love is Not a Reward – Stories and Sourcebook

I’ve come up for air. I’ve been going through the proofs of the two Love is Not a Reward books – text and source books. They will be available for sale soon, just a few more corrections and they’ll be on the shelves.

Also, I’ve just completed the first draft of a play. I won’t mention the title at the moment because it might change. It’s out to readers so I can breath for a few days. Initial responses have been very favourable, though the indications are that more work will be required to make it ready for stage.

I am, however, very excited by suggestions that it would work as a radio play, and also as a book (narrative). One person even mentioned film.

Does the spiritual work affect my writing?  Absolutely!! Particularly the subject matter. Even the colour of the cover for Love is Not a Reward was shown to me in a shamanic journey.

Brief Encounter in Carnforth

It’s my last night in the land of lakes. The weather today is a reminder as to why there are so many lakes, but it’s been perfect for writing. I wrote 4 scenes of my play while the lake shimmered and swelled and swans swam gracefully by. I need a writing retreat like this on a more permanent basis.
